When it comes time for the annual clean-out of my closet, I admit I sometimes get a little hesitant to get rid of things- even if they’re no longer considered “in style”- because time and trends have a funny way of coming full circle and those very same “outdated” fads tend to make a comeback. See: fanny packs, neon anything, scrunchies- and more recently- tie-dye print.
Being a child of the 90s, I’d say that the majority of my wardrobe was tie-dye at one point. It was *the* definitive print for kids who grew up watching Nickelodeon’s SNICK programming and the TGIF lineup. Eventually, like all styles that define a certain era- it fizzled out in popularity and focus shifted elsewhere (and given it was the 1990s- it probably wasn’t anything we want to remember. That era of fashion was questionable at best.)
So imagine my surprise- and nostalgia- when tie-dye began making it’s long overdue return to the frontlines of fashion in recent months. My old pieces, which I’ve long since outgrown and which had been given away- needed to be replaced- and I’ve enjoyed purchasing new stuff from small businesses in recent weeks. Dresses. Leggings. Swimwear. I’m living my best 1990s life right now- but my favorite find is this lightweight sweater I picked up from DyeHardApparelUK.
Even though it’s Summer, a sweater is always a good thing to have on hand- especially in New England when the temperatures can drop pretty significantly at night. This one is soft but durable- and needless to say it matches pretty much everything right now. The colors are bold and vibrant but it’s also still very pretty and feminine.
Also- the hair is a running gag during quarantine. Since I only get to see my mother every couple of weeks, I’ve been wearing different wigs and clip-in extensions every time I visit her to make things a bit more fun and lighthearted. This mermaid-inspired wig is one of my favorites- and I thought it matched pretty nicely with the tie-dye print.
DyeHardApparelUK has a ton of different clothing and accessories to choose from- all at a fair price- if you want to get in on this trend before it disappears again.
But this time when it does, keep whatever you buy in storage and easily accessible- because when tie-dye inevitably makes another comeback a few years from now- you’ll be prepared!
