Local Loves: Deviant Donuts

I am an advocate and activist when it comes to celebrating life’s little wins and accomplishments with a “Sweet Treat.” Made it through a tough day at work? Sweet treat. Ran all of your errands without procrastinating (too much?) Sweet treat. The forecast called for rain but the sun is shining instead? Sweet treat. Life is too short and too unpredictable to deny yourself a little something delicious or decadent now and then.

And I’m also someone who loves to share sweet treats with others, so when it came time to pick up some desserts for a gaming get-together I had planned with friends over this past weekend, Troy & I headed down to one of my favorite places in Connecticut – not only for road tripping, but because I wanted to pick up the goods at one of my longtime favorite doughnut shops in all of New England.

Deviant Donuts, located within a cozy little building in Olde Mistick Village in Mystic, Connecticut – first launched in 2017 – and has since grown into a successful café and pastry shop that serves up delicious beverages and some of the tastiest, most beautiful handmade doughnuts I’ve ever seen over the years. Their doughnut menu, which changes weekly and has a number of specials, features offerings for everyone – including those who are seeking out vegan and gluten-free options.

I always stock up on doughnuts (and lavender lemonade!) whenever I drop in because they have yet to develop a doughnut flavor that hasn’t blown me away in both taste and creative details. During our recent trip, Troy and I grabbed a number of flavors like maple bacon, Fruity Pebbles, tiramisu, dirt cup (with gummy worms, of course!) French Toast and Samoa – among many others!

And of course these were a big hit at the get together we attended on Saturday afternoon – with all of the doughnuts disappearing in record time.

I’m now looking at Deviant’s current Easter offerings and am debating another trip back for more!
