OOTD: Pops of Red

Any time the temperatures creep out of the single digits here in New England, even if it’s just for a few days, I’m typically the first one to say “Spring is coming!” even though I know – deep down – that Spring likely won’t be here until mid-to-late April. Regardless, I’ve been so eager to dress for warmer weather again that I recently showed a little (not too much, or nearly as much as I usually do!) leg earlier this week when trying out a Valentine’s Day-inspired ensemble as the sun was setting over the Berkshires a couple of days ago during a brief “heat wave” here in New England.

While I have plenty of reds and pinks in my wardrobe year-round, and am certainly not opposed to wearing them at length this month given tomorrow’s romantic holiday, I actually enjoy subtle pops of the shades here and there and find them to be a more fun, bold and unexpected fashion choice – especially when the rest of the outfit is mostly one certain color/color scheme.

This black, off-the-shoulder dress was something I had wanted to wear for New Year’s while in Maine last month, but it hadn’t arrived by the time my boyfriend and I departed for our extended weekend away. Instead, I saved it for Valentine’s Day – pairing it with the faux-fur coat he had gifted me for the holidays and a jeweled choker necklace that makes me feel like a Victorian-era ghost whenever I wear it (in a good way, of course!)

But for a Valentine’s Day-inspired pop of color, I wore these bright red patent pumps via Steve Madden, which I’m almost positive have made an appearance on ‘Coffee & Chiffon‘ before since I’ve had them forever. They’ve held up remarkably well over the years, and are still so comfortable to walk or stand in for extended periods of time.

I’m likely going to re-create this outfit over this coming weekend, and will maybe include a red or pink cardigan, or a pink pair of heels, instead – especially since I have some fun Valentine’s/Galentine’s Day plans lined up over the next couple of days and want to mix it up a little for the occasions!

I hope those of you who are celebrating Valentine’s Day and/or Galentine’s Day this weekend have a wonderful time with your significant others, your gal pals, or even if you’re practicing some self-care all on your own. Enjoy every moment of it!

[ And thank you to Dan Little for the photos! ]
