My Winter Makeup Routine!

Truth be told, I’m still getting so much wear out of the products I shared a few months ago when writing about my Fall Makeup Collection, specifically the golden hues of my eyeshadow and highlighter. They are still a part of my every day go-to looks for work or for evenings and nights out with friends/family during these chilly Winter months – which may explain why this season’s collection of products is on the smaller side. I didn’t need to do a big haul this time around!

But it’s all about quality over quantity these days, and I wanted to talk about the new additions in my routine – be it because a product needed replenishing/replacing or yours truly needed a pop of color in her life to mix things up! This Winter, I have a bold new eyeshadow shade, some essential and hydrating lip oils, and a finishing powder that has me glowing like an angel – and I’m excited to share them.

And for anyone who would like to check out past installments, I’ve linked them here!

Swatches of the more pigmented products can be located near the end of the post, but until then – let’s get right into it!

I had started hitting pan on my last container of setting/finishing powder by the end of this past November, but I’m a firm believer in not being wasteful and using something for as long as you can or until it’s no longer good. So, by the end of December when I was literally scraping the edges of the container to get enough powder so that I my makeup wouldn’t be running off of my face by the end of the day – I knew it was time to finally pick up a new one.

This Halo Glow Loose Setting Powder from e.l.f. Cosmetics came highly recommended by a friend who has been using it (and who always looks flawless!) so I decided to give it a try for myself. This lightweight powder sets effortlessly over makeup and my skin, blurring imperfections and pores, and gives me a subtle, radiant glow that lasts all day – so touch-ups haven’t been needed as often throughout the Winter so far!

And at only $9 for so much powder? It’s a steal!

I had mentioned at the top of the post that I am still very much using my golden eyeshadow palette I’d shared in my Fall Makeup Collection pretty much every day since it has so many versatile shades, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to break out and get a little wild and playful with color from time to time – especially in the Winter when vibrant, fun colors look so cool against the backdrop of a grey, snowy day.

Emerald green is my favorite color, and when I saw this holographic liquid shadow from about-face (and then saw how pigmented and shiny it was!) – I immediately scooped it up and have been wearing it on my lids or using it as a liner since. This vegan, cruelty-free formula doesn’t budge, flake or crease – and gives such a pretty, prism effect from all angles.

I’m already scoping out new shades from this brand for the Spring!

And as always, I swap out my mascara every couple of months to avoid contaminations or spreading bacteria near my eyes. For this Winter, I turned to my longtime love, NARS, and their Climax Mascara to give me blizzard-proof lashes. I love that this formula gives me definition and volume that doesn’t smudge or smear, but I especially love that there’s no clumping involved!

It seems like so many of the newer formulas I’ve seen advertised look clumpy, gloopy (is that a word?) and messy – so this mascara applying as cleanly and evenly as it does is so refreshing!

My lips have taken a beating this season for a number of reasons – the frigid temperatures outside, the super hot/dry temperatures indoors, a recent fight against a brief cold/flu – whatever the reasons, it’s been a war zone, and balms and chap sticks have only provided fleeting, temporary relief.

So when it comes time to put my best face forward, I’ve been utilizing hydrating oils to keep things under control. The first, via BYOMA, gives me a boost of hydration using ingredients like Avocado and Tamanu Oils. This one applies clear, so I can use it at any time during the day when I need some instant relief without residual stickiness.

But when I want some color on my pout this season, I’ve been loving the Fat Oil glosses by NYX Cosmetics – particularly in this cherry red shade! This formula has a nice cooling effect (which feels great when my lips are on fire) and a long-lasting, high gloss shine.

Although the packaging promises 12 hours of wear, this is one I usually have to reapply after a couple of hours or so – but I like the feeling, the finish, and the color – so I don’t mind too much!

While that’s all of the products I’ve incorporated into this season’s collection and routine, I did promise some swatches, didn’t I? Here’s a look at some of the pigmentation and textures of what I shared above!

And that just about does it for this season’s installment! Some new additions to compliment some older favorites and brighten things up just a little as we navigate through the darkest and chilliest of seasons.

Of course, if you have any recommendations for products or new drops I should check out in preparation for the Spring collection I’ll be putting together in a few months when it comes time to review and restock my routine, feel free to reach out or leave a comment!

See you all again on Friday!
