When I ask for recommendations for places to visit or eat while I’m traveling, I do my best to visit any and all suggestions provided to me. My friends, family, and connections on social media rarely lead me astray – and I often myself having some of the most incredible experiences or indulging in some of the most amazing meals as a result!
For this installment of “Local Loves”, I’m heading all the way back to Springfield, Ohio to revisit a deli that was recommended to me by my dear friend Dan and his lovely parents, who visit this location every time they’re in the area to stock up on subs – and told me it was a “must-do” thing while I was traveling in and around Columbus last week.
Mike and Rosy’s Deli has been a beloved community staple in Springfield since 1977, and it’s easy to see why – their food is the real deal – made fresh and served in very generous portions. They offer so many options for sandwiches, bagels, pizzas, soups and so much more.
I had to look at the menu more than once after I’d arrived to make sure I weighed all my options for a lunch I was grabbing while zipping through the area before meeting up with Andrew and the kids, but I ultimately chose the “Famous Hoagie” at Dan’s recommendation – a steamed sub (which I’ve never had before but definitely enjoyed!) loaded with meat and cheese.

And when I tell you that I devoured that sub in an adjacent seating area that had a ton of fun sports memorabilia to look at – I’m not kidding. It was delicious, and I kind of wish I’d thought to grab another one to eat for my drive home to Massachusetts on Friday night before I’d left town!
I don’t know if and when I’ll find myself back in Springfield, Ohio again – but if I do – Mike and Rosy’s will be my first stop when I get there!
Next week, we’re winding down spooky season (although it’s always Halloween in my heart and soul!) with a recap of some stuff I have lined up for this coming weekend, a round-up of my favorite things from October, and my review of the month as a whole before we get ready to kick start November!
See you all next week!

Used to LOVE their subs… But the last 3 trips have been abomination.
A soggy liquefied mess of bun with a fleck of meat. Totally unacceptable. Shame on me for trying over and over again to give them “the benefit of the doubt.”
Perhaps;-NOT over steaming -NOT wrapping the Super Wet sub in Foil, Use wax paper or sandwich box -NOT using a fleck of meat, Put some meat on the sub! -NOT using a Quality sub par bun -NOT going with cheap ingredients -NOT having food preparers blather on with the cashier/order taker while customers are trying to order (rude) …
You might NOT go out of business, by noting the NOTS above. I won’t be returning. $36 Bucks for a Reubon, an Italian, and 8″ turkey subs with a bag of chips is highway robbery. Especially after depositing the soggy, wet subs in the trash. Reubon had potential but; Use a quality thousand island dressing, Grilled rye or marble rye. To see a real reubon checkout Slymans in Cleveland. 4 X the corn beef for 3 bucks more.
