One of my favorite September traditions and a true “return to Fall form” event I love participating in every year is the first cider mill visit of the season (and purchasing apple cider doughnuts is a must-do!) While I tend to visit many long-time cherished locations throughout Autumn, I try to mix it up a little when kicking things off in early September by checking in at an orchard/mill I maybe hadn’t visited in a while as a refresher.
So this year, I decided to start the season right by stopping by Hogan’s Cider Mill in Burlington, Connecticut. I admittedly haven’t been to their beautiful and picturesque location since 2023, but it’s just as lovely as ever!
Hogan’s, family owned and operated, has been producing their own high quality and delicious apple cider since 1912, and have since expanded the property to include an adorable general store that sells both goods made at the mill and art/jewelry/gifts locally produced by New England-based artists and vendors. They also have a cozy tap room, a barn converted into a bar that serves all of their hard cider options, outdoor seating areas with lawn games and the occasional food truck – and a mini golf course that’s fun for all ages. They also host a number of monthly and seasonal events that are worth checking out!
I made sure to stock up on their freshly baked apple cider doughnuts during my most recent trip this past weekend, and took the time to enjoy the alcohol-free version of their viral “Drunken Donut” treat – and it was just as delicious as the time I did have it with hard cider!
There’s plenty of parking both in front of the mill and in the fields behind it, with friendly staff always available to assist and answer any questions you may have. I recommend visiting on a weekday to avoid the crowds, but if you do stop by on a Saturday or Sunday – get there early! This place fills up fast, especially this time of year!
I’m looking forward to going back real soon!
