The news and updates coming out of Central Texas right now have been nothing short of heartbreaking, as the search and rescues that began in the hours and days after devastating flash floods that decimated the region just over a week ago have gradually turned into recovery missions – including efforts to locate still unaccounted for children who went missing from local Summer camps that were in the direct path of the rushing, powerful floodwaters. I cannot fathom the pain and anguish of the parents and families who are still waiting for updates on their loved ones and hoping for miracles.
While I’m grateful and proud that my primary place of employment has made generous donations of monetary increments and of supplies to relief funds set up throughout the affected areas, I wanted to provide a listing of additional charities, non-profits and organizations who could use extra assistance and support right now as they try to aid those who have been injured or displaced.
And while I had wanted to post this sooner, I also wanted to make sure that these organizations and links were legitimate, as unfortunately a lot of people come out of the woodwork in the aftermath of natural disasters and tragedies to try and make a quick buck. I can say confidently, however – that the below listings have been vetted and are the real deal. These people are angels walking and working among us:
- Kerr County Flood Relief Fund
- TEXSAR
- H-E-B (I love them! You can make a donation in-store or online!)
- Uvalde Foundation for Kids
- Kerrville Pets Alive (additionally – Austin Pets Alive is helping displaced pets reunite with their families, as well!)
- Mercy Chefs
- Texas Firewalkers
I’m sending so much love and hope for healing to Texas and everyone I know there. It’s a beautiful state filled with lovely, hard-working, kind and generous people – and if anyone can come back stronger than ever after a tragedy like this – it’s them.
If anyone would like to provide additional links or information on organizations and non-profits who are assisting with the ongoing disaster relief in the area, please feel free to reach out or leave a comment!
