Not-So-Local-Loves: Ledro Land Art

While recapping my recent stay in Italy, I had mentioned that Troy and I had spent a day hiking the perimeter of the absolutely breathtaking Lake Ledro, where we’d stopped by each of the small villages that surround the water throughout the course of our walk. Early in the day, before we’d embarked, I had done a little research to see if there was anything specific to see or do in any of the villages when I saw an advertisement for an art trail in the tiny town of Pur.

The trail, known only as Ledro Land Art – appeared to have a number of larger than life sculptures tucked away within a pine forest that visitors could explore at their own pace. Given how beautiful it was outside – sunny and warm – we decided to check it out, thinking that it would only be a brief detour during our journey. As we made our way past fields of wildflowers, farms, and a local honey shop, however – we didn’t expect that we’d soon be coming across one of the coolest and most unique art installations we’d ever seen – or that we’d be spending hours exploring it!

Founded in 2012, Ledro Land Art provides space for artists to display their work and a beautiful backdrop for visitors to discover those works by following the guide provided via the park’s website or on their own by simply picking a direction and walking towards it (which is what Troy and I ended up doing!) The park also hosts special events, classes, workshops, specialty tours, etc. during the Summer season. Since the park is open to visitors 24/7 – I noticed they even have a stargazing seminar scheduled in July this year. SO incredible!

Many of the long-standing works have nearby plaques written in both Italian and English that provided more information on the artists or context for what the work was supposed to represent, but something that was especially magical is that many artists display their work there without being listed on the guide or without a plaque – so at any given moment you could be walking and BAM! You were staring at something amazing that you didn’t expect to be there. On more than one occasion, Troy and I would be frantically calling to each other to come see something we’d stumbled on unexpectedly.

It was one of the most incredible experiences of the trip – and I took so many photos that I thought my phone was going to crash. I was so inspired, and encourage anyone to submit their own works for consideration when the park has it’s next call for artists (presumably for the 2026 season.) The website is so easy to navigate and has so much useful information.

I don’t know when I’ll ever find myself at Lake Ledro again, but if/when I do – I’ll definitely be stopping by Ledro Lake Art again to see what else I can discover!

Next week, I’ll be sharing my attempt to recreate one of my favorite Italian pasts dishes I had while I was away, as well as posting my favorite items/things from these past few weeks and recapping May in all it’s beautiful entirety before we head into June. What a whirlwind this month has been so far!

See you all then!
