OOTD: Old Money, Young Dress…

When I first began compiling my packing list for my upcoming trip to Italy (separating things like electronics/adapters, the essentials like my passport and wallet, toiletries and sun protection, etc.) I took to social media for some inspiration and recommendations for when it came time to put together a chic but practical capsule wardrobe so that I could give myself plenty of time to pick up or order anything that I maybe didn’t have readily available to store in my suitcase right away.

One of the most common suggestions I came across was to ditch anything bright, flashy, or that would draw attention to my being a tourist. Neutral tones, like beige, brown, creams/whites, dark green and navy seemed to be to the popular consensus from those who regularly travel to or currently reside in the area – and since I’ll be spending the bulk of my trip in a small village in Northern Italy far away from the overpopulated “hot spots” travelers frequent this time of year – this made the most sense.

Thankfully, I’m from New England, where those neutral colors reign supreme during “East Coast Summer” – particularly in places like Rhode Island and Martha’s Vineyard. I’ve got plenty of options, including this newer, linen, navy blue dress I had picked up for Easter from Universal Thread.

With functioning buttons that go up the front and dotted all over with the smallest and prettiest stitched flowers – and yes, it has pockets! – this lightweight little number has been perfect for the warm days we’ve been having recently, and is appropriate for both casual and more formal occasions where it’s acceptable to show some leg.

I paired this with some cream-colored flats and some gold beaded bracelets to keep things simple while Dan and I took an afternoon to stroll the gorgeous grounds of The Mount in Lenox. He made me look regal, for sure!

I’m sure this dress is going to get plenty of wear in Italy, but I’m also looking forward to getting more usage out of it here in New England during the Summer when my girlfriends and I go out for more oysters, wine and boating excursions again!
