“I Saw Flowers in Your Hair…”

It’s been quite an interesting few days weather/climate-wise here in New England this week. On Saturday, I awoke to the aftermath of an overnight snow and ice storm that left enough sleet and sludge on the road that the plows had to be taken out of storage to clear the streets before anyone could safely venture out into the world again. By Sunday, it was simply pouring out with the slightest of chills in the air – and then yesterday it was in the seventies, sunny, and with an occasional thunderstorm rolling through the area.

I’ve been keeping a light sweater and an umbrella within reach at all times as I wait for things to stabilize while simultaneously keeping the ice scraper and snow brush for my windshield in my trunk – just in case – because you truly never know what’s going to happen!

I digress. Even with torrential downpours and snow threatening to put a literal damper on my weekend, I still ventured down to Newport, Rhode Island for an afternoon to grab lunch and check out the beginning of their annual “Daffodil Days” city-wide event. Some of you may remember my excursion to the area around this time last year, but given the inclement weather and the announced cancellation of the event’s opening ceremonies because of it – I decided to try my luck at snapping some photos at one of the busier daffodil-lined locations this time around.

And it paid off!

The famed Cliff Walk, a 3.5 mile trail that snakes behind some of Newport’s most gorgeous and historic waterfront mansions, is lined with thousands of daffodils this time of year. However, on nice days – it’s quite crowded and can be difficult to snap photos or drink in an unobstructed view. When you go on a rainy day, though – it makes for a beautiful stroll!

I managed to walk the entirety of the trail before I looped back to where I’d parked so I get home and prepare for my week, and I’m so grateful I got to see all of the flowers up close in the process.

A little later on this week, I’m going to be sharing a quick and easy snack recipe for any pickle lovers out there before I have a full recap of my mini-adventure here in New England with Troy, who flies in this afternoon! I can’t wait!

’til then!
