Get your giggles about the name out of your system now, because this Newport, Rhode Island-based specialty hot dog eatery and bar is the legitimate real deal and worth both your time and attention the next time you travel to one of my absolute favorite places in New England!
What first began as a hot dog cart in 2019 that served locally-sourced franks and sides, Wally’s has since grown substantially, even in the face of a global pandemic and economic uncertainty (a testament to how good they are!) – and are now located in a two-story and adorably decorated spot on Thames Street in Newport – just steps away from beloved shops, wharfs and the waterfront.
While their drink and cocktail menu is extensive and impressive (especially their espresso martini selections – any of which can be turned into a gigantic martini served in an equally gigantic glass to share with friends!) it’s their food and unique hot dog concoctions that have kept me coming back on my “cheat days”. This past weekend, for example, I stopped in post-surprise-snowstorm and during a torrential downpour that prevented me from going to the gym, and decided to try their “Girl Dinner Dog” that I’d recently seen advertised on their Instagram…
… Which is a hot dog smothered in both Caesar salad and parmesan French fries. Absolutely brilliant AND delicious, I made sure to enjoy it with a glass of Prosecco for the added “Girl Dinner” effect too, of course.

And since no one can be in a bad mood when you’re eating a hot dog and sipping on a cocktail – everyone there is always having fun – and we know how much I love a good and upbeat atmosphere when I’m enjoying a meal!
Wally’s also has a great variety of burgers, chicken sandwiches and veggie options if you’re not in the mood for a hot dog – and everything is made fresh and fast, so you’ll have plenty of time to explore the neighborhood once you’re done with your food.
I didn’t snap many photos of the interior during my most recent visit, since the place was packed and I try to respect peoples’ privacy (especially when they’re eating!) as much as I can – but you can see all of their unique and quirky décor on their social media pages!
A little later on this week I’ll have some photos and a recap of the rest of my day trip to Newport, because it ended up being gorgeous and spectacular despite the unpredictable weather!
