California is no stranger to out-of-control wildfires, but the Palisades Fire has felt like an entirely new and terrifying beast – and the unstoppable path of destruction it’s left in it’s wake across Southern California has been shocking and heartbreaking to watch in real time.
While I’m relieved that my friends and loved ones in the affected areas have been safely evacuated and are out of harm’s way – the uncertainty and dread they must be feeling about what, if anything, they’ll be able to return to when the flames are finally extinguished must be unbearable. My heart breaks for them, for the potential loss of their homes and livelihoods, and for everyone in the counties who are going through such an ordeal right now.
It’s easy to feel helpless, especially when it seems like all you can do is offer words of love, support, hope and concern from afar like so many of us watching the scenes unfold – but there’s already been an extraordinary display of organization to provide immediate relief to those affected – and I wanted to share some links for anyone else who want to pitch in, as well!
The following organizations are accepting monetary donations as well as donations of food/supplies for those who have been displaced by the fires and for the first responders who are actively attempting to get the situation under control.
- California Fire Foundation
- GoFundMe’s Confirmed/Verified Wildfire Fundraising Hub
- Los Angeles Regional Food Bank
- League of California Community Foundations
- Animal Wellness Foundation
- Pasadena Humane
- Project Camp
And of course, The Red Cross and Salvation Army are also accepting donations – but the links I shared are locally-based non-profits who are already in the area providing assistance and aid!
My heart goes out to everyone who have lost loved ones, their homes, treasured belongings, and both their sense of safety and security in the aftermath of these wildfires. I hope that you all are able to heal and rebuild – and that immediate action is taken so that you never have to go through something like this ever again.
So much love.
