Festive Foodie: Christmas Tree Cake Trifle

Some of you may see the title of this post and think to yourselves “Ashley, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet. What in the world are you doing?” but considering I’m going to be setting up my Christmas tree this coming Sunday so that I can just rest and relax in the long weekend I have off immediately following Thanksgiving at my mother’s house, I thought I’d make things festive a little early here at ‘Coffee & Chiffon‘ with a quick, no-bake dessert recipe I came across while mindlessly scrolling through Instagram recently – although I modified it ever so slightly.

The recipe I’d seen called for cream cheese, holiday sprinkles, and an additional layer of the delicious (but not particularly healthy) seasonal Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes spread out on top. Although it looked colorful and fun – and filling! – I opted for a somewhat “lighter” alternative. The cake is still there, of course, but I substituted the cream cheese for Cool Whip and the sprinkles/additional cakes for sliced strawberries, instead – and served these is individual wine glasses for easy cleanup!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

5 SERVINGS:

  • 1 box (5 cakes) of Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes, chocolate or vanilla, and chopped into pieces.
  • ½ container of Cool Whip, unfrozen
  • 5 large strawberries, sliced
  • Holiday sprinkles (optional)

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

1. If you’re using a wine glass like I did, place the chopped cake pieces into the bottom. If you want the finished product to look a little more festive, maneuver the pieces so that the frosted edges of the chopped cake pieces are facing outwards.

2. Scoop a hearty amount of Cool Whip on top of the cake pieces. Gently push down to make sure the Cool Whip is getting in-between the cake pieces.

3. Top with sliced strawberries and holiday sprinkles (optional) and serve!

This one is so insanely easy that I don’t even think having to lay out the ingredients and three-step process was even needed – but you never know!

My mom is coming over to visit me this weekend, and I have some extra cake and strawberries here, so I’ll be making one for her after I cook us both dinner. I’m sure she’ll get a kick out of it!

See you all next week!
