With Dan back from Arizona just in time to catch peak foliage here in New England, we recently made the most out of a sunny weekend morning/early afternoon with plenty of leaf peeping, pumpkin picking, and apple cider sundaes around a couple of our favorite Autumnal spots in both New York and Vermont that we managed to visit during a mini and successful road trip loop.
Given that the weather can be and often is a bit temperamental and unpredictable throughout the Northeast most of the time, I played it safe with a black, knee-length sweater dress, my dark brown, faux-leather knee-high boots – and this beautiful, super soft and dark red fleece poncho I had picked up earlier in the season at UNA Boutique in Mystic, Connecticut.
Although this design came in a lot of Fall-inspired colors, like dark brown, olive green, and deep gray – this red was my favorite – and is something I knew I could get a lot of wear out of throughout the colder months and leading into the holiday season. A good red is a guaranteed go-to for clothing and accessories when it comes time for Fall activities or when I’m feeling festive. You can’t go wrong!
And when I saw how it looked with the foliage in the background of some of the pictures both Dan and I snapped throughout our day – I knew I made the right call. It was particularly stunning with the changing leaves behind it! What an absolutely magnificent backdrop this season is.

I also love that this piece can be worn a number of ways: as a poncho (like I did,) a cardigan or a tunic, as a scarf, and so on. It’s easy to dress up or down and accessorize depending on the occasion, but most importantly – you bet it kept me so warm and cozy – even when the temperatures dropped a little bit the further North we drove!
I’m going to be wearing this one a lot more in the coming days/weeks before I have to eventually put an actual Winter coat over it – but for now, this has been the perfect outerwear piece for the season!
