Hurricanes Helene & Milton: Ways To Help

I had been looking into different organizations that were on the ground and providing aid to areas that had been decimated by September’s unprecedented Hurricane Helene – and the best ways to get money and resources directly to those organizations – when news of Hurricane Milton barreling it’s way towards the Western coast of Florida began spreading. With my brother and his family living in Sarasota, and in what was projected to be within the direct path of Milton, the last few days had been stressful as the strength of the storm grew and my brother confirmed that he’d be riding it out after securing their home to the best of his abilities.

Thankfully, I can confirm that he and his family are safe and that their home didn’t sustain too much damage – which is a huge relief and nothing short of a miracle that I am so, so grateful for.

Sadly, many others cannot say the same. Hundreds are dead. Hundreds more are still missing – and projected damages are in the billions after homes were swept away in floods, tornadoes, and heavy rains and winds. Help is desperately needed by those left in the wake of these two extremely strong and back-to-back storms.

I’ve been pointed in the direction of, and have confirmed the validity for a few organizations who have taken on assisting the two separate but vast areas affected by both Helene and Milton – and had wanted to provide a list of each for those who are looking for legitimate sources to donate money, goods, and/or their time.

Beginning with Hurricane Helene, who made landfall and worked it’s way to to Western North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia:

BeLoved Asheville

Direct Relief

Manna Food Bank

Baby2Baby

Hearts With Hands

And for Hurricane Milton, here are a few resources to assist those who were in the path of the storm as it made landfall in Western Florida last week:

Volunteer Florida Foundation

All Faiths Food Bank

Aerial Recovery

Feeding Tampa Bay

Rebuilding Together

Please also considering donating to The Humane Society of The United States, who have been assisting with providing food, shelter and medical care to animals that have been displaced in both disasters!

Sending so much love to everyone who has been affected and impacted by these storms, and to everyone who has been assisting with relief, recovery and rescue efforts. Their continued diligence in providing aid and rebuilding the communities that have taken the brunt of the devastation is a beautiful and heroic thing to witness.
