One of the more interesting things I enjoy about preparing for an extended vacation (less than two weeks to go!) is going through my closet during my pre-packing, daily-outfit-planning methodology to begin laying things out, ironing/steaming the pieces that are a little more wrinkled, or getting things together for the dry cleaners so that I have plenty of options to choose from for a wide variety of events or unexpected changes in weather once I reach my destination(s).
It’s not the actual process itself that I enjoy, since it can be and usually is a lot of extra work before what is supposed to be a relaxing trip – but it’s the finding things I haven’t worn in a while and getting to wear them again before the season is over that I get a little giddy about, Case in point? This dark blue and floral halter mini-dress, which I found neatly hanging in the back of my closet after it had accidentally been bumped out of my direct view while I was hanging a jacket up a couple of months ago.
I haven’t worn this dress all Summer after picking it up for a late night, outdoor cocktail party I was attending last year. It’s stretchy and comfortable, with a button clasp on the back of the neck to hold it in place – and the embroidered flowers on it have a very cool 3-D effect.

After finding it, I opted to wear it out for a recent day trip Dan and I took to get lunch from our favorite food truck, grab some lemonade slushies from a local farmstand on the way back from said food truck, and go for a walk along a creek in Goshen, Massachusetts near where he used to live prior to moving into the building we now both occupy.
And since we weren’t going anywhere fancy like a Summertime wedding or a cocktail party, I kept it simple with my footwear and threw on my yellow slingback sandals. They may not have been the most practical choice while walking along the water’s edge, but for everything else – they looked great!
When I eventually put this dress away for next Summer, I’m going to make sure it has a spot front and center in my closet so I can be sure not to miss it and so I can wear it more often next year!
