As adults with careers and mounting responsibilities, it can sometimes be difficult to schedule or plan get-togethers with my longtime friends. Gone are the days of impromptu house parties and bar crawls where we’d all end up sleeping on couches in whatever cramped apartment had room for us by the time the sun was rising the following morning, and in is the era of planned dinners/potlucks, game nights, and day trips to local points of interest for a chill, laid-back “staycation.”
I don’t mind, really. How I survived my twenties remains a mystery- and I love the more refined and “grown up” mentality we’ve all developed over the past few years. It’s nice to be removed from pure chaos!
So this past weekend, after some careful planning in our group chat- a few of my friends and I gathered at Stef’s farm for a dinner-by-campfire, a couple of drinks, and some music-after-dark in what would be the first cookout of the season! It was fantastic, especially since it was right before this week’s heatwave hit New England head-on- so the weather was perfect. We enjoyed fire-roasted lamb, hot dogs, pickled beet and goat cheese salad (that I prepared!) and s’mores while curating a Summertime playlist on a Bluetooth speaker and watching the stars start to appear overhead as the sun went down.

I know we’re going to make another effort to get together again soon for more food and fire, and I can’t wait.
On Sunday, with my wanting to commemorate Father’s Day by the ocean- I headed down to Narragansett, Rhode Island to check out Point Judith Lighthouse and the nearby Rose Nulman Park that rests along the water. I was a little disappointed that the pathway that used to loop around the lighthouse has since been seized and closed off to the public by the Coast Guard. I’d wanted to snap some better, up-close photos of it since it was such a beautiful and sunny day.
While in town, I also grabbed some clam cakes and lobster mac & cheese in a very bright and colorful outdoor dining are at Buster Krab’s when I wasn’t snapping photos of some nearby, equally bright and colorful beach cottages and shops.
I love Rhode Island so much this time of year – and I’m looking forward to going back after an upcoming getaway to Vermont I’ve got planned this coming weekend!
