“If you like Piña Coladas…”

This week is shaping up to be one of the busiest I’ve had in a while, which is almost always the case leading up to a long weekend/vacation. I’m working as normal, attending meetings and appointments before I take off for Boston Calling and then Maine for an extended Memorial Day holiday- but there’s also some last minute errands to be run- like grocery shopping, tidying up my apartment and “getting myself cute” for Troy’s arrival in a couple of days (always gotta’ touch up the hair and nails, of course!)

But this past weekend, in-between getting a head start on some of those things (specifically the tidying up my apartment and grocery shopping parts of my to-do list,) I made sure to squeeze in some really, really fun stuff, too.

On Friday afternoon, after wrapping up work early- I headed up to my beloved Rye, New Hampshire to celebrate the seasonal grand opening of one of my long-time favorite cafés/bars, Kooks! I had arrived shortly after they opened for the day and the place was already packed- which is always a good thing!- but I managed to grab a seat where I proceeded to enjoy some rum cocktails, tamales, chips and guac, and catch up with some familiar faces I hadn’t seen all Winter.

They’re operating on a limited schedule and menu until June 1st when they officially go full-on everything for the Summer- so of course I’m going back ASAP! Their tacos and smoothie bowls cannot be beat.

On Saturday, I stopped by Stef’s farm to record a couple of episodes of our podcast and check in on some baby ducks she had recently hatch (and all the little ducklings appear to be doing just fine despite a couple of initial scares with one or two who seemed a little sluggish at first!) What I hadn’t counted on, however, was after recording- when I was greeted by our friends Sean, Nick and Jackie- who’d all quietly shown up to surprise me with dinner and a tabletop gaming session that extended well into the evening hours/early morning hours of Sunday.

It was the best surprise- and I had an absolute blast!

And of course, I slept in a little bit yesterday before I got around to taking care of some pre-Monday tasks and visiting with my mom- which briefly brought me to both Woodstock and Pomfret, Connecticut. And, while there- I decided to treat myself to lunch at another long-time favorite spot, The Vanilla Bean Café, where I ran into some extended family before it was time to make the long drive back home.

And here we are! A little later on this week, I’m going to be sharing a fun spin on an already great Summertime side dish and talking about another favorite local business of mine before we break for the long weekend and I prepare to wind down the month of May next week!

Stay tuned!
