Sometimes, in the dead of Winter when the wind is howling, the temperatures are dropping, and the days are dragging – nothing is more helpful in saving one’s sanity than a scenic drive and some comfort food in a warm and cozy setting with a picturesque view.
This has been a week, filled with ups and downs, tons of work and a little bit of snow – and I’m exhausted (another reason this post is going up in the afternoon! I slept late this morning because I so desperately needed it!) so when I had an unexpected freed up afternoon earlier this week – I knew where I wanted to go for a couple of hours and what exactly I was in the mood to eat.
I hopped in my car and drove just under an hour North to Brattleboro, Vermont where I grabbed a fireside table at Whetstone Station – a brewery and pub in the heart of downtown that overlooks the Connecticut River and features both indoor and outdoor seating (which makes it beautiful year-round!)
I’ve been a few times in the past, often when I’m traveling through Vermont on my way to/from home in the Pioneer Valley. The food has always been fantastic, the service has always been exceptional- and although I’m not a big beer enthusiast – I’ve had a couple of sours there that have been surprisingly refreshing!
They also have a gift stop that sells mugs, shirts, stickers and chilled cans of their popular pours.
I grabbed a burger smothered in macaroni and cheese and some crispy fries loaded with parmesan (I said it was a comfort food kind of week!) and enjoyed the view of the river and the music that was playing throughout the taproom before I made my way back home and back to work/errands/obligations – but I definitely felt better as I did!
If you like breweries, pub food, or simply just want to take a break from exploring downtown Brattleboro – I can’t recommend this place enough!
