I had mentioned earlier this week that my Valentine’s Day plans involved cooking a fancy dinner for Troy while he’s in town. Earlier this week after finishing work early, I got started on shopping for and gathering the ingredients I needed for what I had planned while simultaneously trying to not ruin the surprise with every bag of groceries he helped me carry inside when I got back. He may have seen the stuff for the charcuterie board I’m putting together- but the rest went by undetected!
And while a quiet night in may not call for fancy or dressy attire, I still want to dress nicely- and proceeded to go through my closet to find something cute, comfortable, and that had some red in it (I’m clichΓ© like that sometimes.) I came across this ankle-length, tiered red floral skirt from Draper James that I’d purchased near the end of last year for special occasions and knew I’d stumbled on a winner!
Flowy and flouncy, this skirt pairs well with my favorite black turtleneck sweater, black tights, and my olive green ankle boots (there’s some green in the skirt, as well- so it matches nicely!) although in warmer weather I’d wear this one with some black or red heels and maybe a fitted bodysuit instead of the sweater.

I plan to keep my jewelry minimal with this one, since the skirt is kind of a statement piece all in itself – a simple gold chain necklace or a couple of gold rings are what I’m planning for next week’s holiday – after I get done cooking, of course!
I’ll likely be sharing photos of the finished dinner on my INSTAGRAM next week (if all goes according to plan, of course!) and I’m looking forward to seeing how everyone else celebrates the day with their significant others, or their friends, or independently, too!
I used to take myself on solo dates when I was single and I can confirm it’s just as much fun and rewarding!
