Local Loves: Charlie Brown’s Christmas Tree Farm

For as long as I can remember, my family and most of my friends (and then just me when I moved away from home) have had fake/plastic Christmas trees on display every holiday season. A lot of us have/had pets, other friends had small children, and I guess there was just something about being able to take something out of a box an then put it away with as little mess and hassle as possible that has always been appealing. I totally get it- and I’m definitely not tree-shaming- if that’s even a thing!

But just because I’ve got the same $15, kind-of-crooked gas station tree I’ve had since I first moved to my current apartment set up behind me as I write this doesn’t mean I don’t love visiting a good, old fashioned Christmas tree farm this time of year! It’s actually one of my favorite traditions, and I try to discover new ones each year. The smell of pine, the dΓ©cor, and if you’re lucky- fresh hot chocolate while you browse? It’s holiday heaven!

So when I was told I needed to check out the Charlie Brown’s Christmas Tree Farm in East Hampton, Connecticut- I hopped in my car bright and early this past weekend to check it out.

The farm rests at the end of a long dirt road, and while they have plenty of various sized and great-looking trees to choose from- they also have a food truck serving the aforementioned hot cocoa, a gift shop filled with affordable and beautiful holiday dΓ©cor, and staff ready to help you pack up your selected tree to bring home with you. There’s also lots of areas to snap cute couples/family photos and visits from Santa, per their website!

Despite the rain, I had a lot of fun looking around. I grabbed a couple of really cute ornaments for my mom’s tree for when I visit her later this week. Maybe next year I’ll commit to taking care of a real tree for the season and head back to find the perfect one!
