Without fail, the debate over when it’s acceptable to decorate for the holidays rages on into the days leading up to Thanksgiving (and it has been since the day after Halloween!) It is an extremely divisive topic- right up there with anything surrounding politics or religion- but I think a fair, nuanced compromise/suggestion would be that it is perfectly okay to start decorating the weekend before Thanksgiving.
By then, everyone has finished their Halloween candy (the good stuff, anyway!) and have taken down their Twelve-Foot-Tall-Home-Depot-Skeletons to pack away until next Fall. And while you can leave up some pumpkins or a good old fashioned cornucopia to keep things festive and pretty for Thanksgiving- isn’t it more fun to have some garland or some beautiful Christmas lights around to illuminate your get togethers from now through the end of the year?
I certainly think so, which is why I spent a good portion of this past weekend cleaning and putting away all of my beloved Fall décor and setting up my holiday stuff- including my teeny, tiny Christmas tree I had bought for my first Christmas at my place back in 2019! I did it not only because Christmas is approaching quicker than I’m ready for, but also because Troy is flying in for a brief stay soon and I wanted him to come home to a Winter Wonderland when he first steps foot in my apartment!
I had the “24/7 Yule Log Channel” playing in the background as I hung up wreaths and a gingerbread-scented candle burning as I meticulously cleaned/disinfected and reorganized every space. When I was done, I felt accomplished, cozy and yes, very cheerful. Best of all? Oliver was there to take it all in, too! I’m sure I’ll be sharing more photos of my apartment’s festive interior and some of my favorite decorations on MY INSTAGRAM over the next few days, so feel free to check it out!

I’ll be blogging on a short schedule this week, taking Friday off to commemorate the Thanksgiving holiday and long weekend. I have a lot of fun plans and travel lined up over the next few days and into the weekend that I’m excited to share and write about here, of course- but I still need a little break from time to time!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, after all!
