L. M. Montgomery once wrote “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers,” and I’m sure many of us Fall Girls can relate. I know I’m repeating myself, maybe for the hundredth time here on ‘Coffee & Chiffon,’ when I say it is my absolute favorite month out of the year- and I’m getting a little emotional at the thought of it almost being over!
But before the grand finale that is Halloween, and leading up to my doing my full write-up of this month that was, I wanted to share some of my favorite things from these past few weeks, first. From spooky gifts and impulse buys, to the best-scented trinkets from San Diego to a truly memorable addition to my wardrobe that commemorates what was one of the most brilliant and beautiful live music experiences I’ve ever had!
As is tradition with these monthly posts, I’ll be sharing the things I could snap photos of before I get into the miscellaneous favorites I’ve also been enjoying.
Let’s get into it!

While I was staying in one of the hotels by the convention center in San Diego earlier this month, I fell in love with the shampoo, conditioner, soap and lotion that was available in my room to use as often as I wanted (and believe me, I used it a lot.) It was by BALMAIN, and it smelled absolutely heavenly. I raved about it every time I took a shower to the point where Troy smuggled me some bars of the soap he’d gotten from housekeeping before we’d left to head back to Orange County.
I’m saving a couple to keep in my nightstand where I store some of my tank tops and t-shirts so that they always smell amazing- but I’m giving some serious consideration to buying all the products they have available on their website!

Speaking of smelling amazing, it’s been a while since Native made an appearance here on the blog! Although they’ve already launched their Holiday 2023 collection (hello, Sugar Cookie!)– I’m still raving about their limited edition, desert-inspired Fall scents. My favorite by far has been their Honey & Saguaro options, like this deodorant- which smells so sweet and clean!
With no-nonsense ingredients or left-behind residue after application, this was my go-to in California to beat the heat (and sweat) and one I’m still using now that I’m back home!

This next item was definitely an impulse buy while I was at Kohl’s earlier this month but I mean, come on, how could I not get this? This cowboy skeleton and ghost mug has been one of my biggest joys each morning when I drink coffee out of it- especially since I’m kind of a “Cowgirl Barbie” at heart sometimes.
The quality and detailing is great, and I’m especially fond of the “Giddy Up Pumpkin” written on the inside. I have a feeling I’ll be keeping this one out on display in my kitchen long after Halloween is over!

One of the greatest experiences of my October, and maybe even my life, was seeing Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service perform at the Hollywood Bowl. I sang, cried, smiled ear to ear. It was amazing, and a show I’m still trying to find the right words to describe adequately and properly. I don’t even think words could do the night justice.
So when Troy left to go find a limited edition poster at one of the merch tables in-between sets, only to come back with this commemorative hoodie for me- I was elated. I’ve been wearing it all the time, especially now that I’m back in New England and it’s been perfect sweatshirt weather lately! It’s so soft and cozy.

And finally, I am obsessed with this super plush blanket that Stef gifted to me, which is designed to look like the VHS cover of the original ‘Halloween’ movie (my all-time favorite!) I’ve been bundling up with this one on rainier, chillier days/nights since I got home while I enjoy some freshly popped popcorn and binge watching yes- you guessed it- all of the horror movies!
And while that does it for the favorites I was able to snap photos of, there’s a few more things that made the list this month, too!
– MOVIES/MUSIC/TELEVISION –
‘Reptile’ – Troy and I watched this new crime thriller (now available on Netflix) on our first night back in Orange County earlier this month, and we loved it! Starring Benicio Del Toro, Alicia Silverstone and Justin Timberlake- who I know isn’t exactly everyone’s favorite person right now- this had so many suspenseful twists and turns that we couldn’t turn away. It was so satisyfing!
‘The Fall of the House of Usher’ – Mike Flanagan doesn’t miss! I started watching this one when I returned to the East Coast and couldn’t stop. Much like Flanagan’s previous works, this miniseries was full of plenty of scary/creepy moments, brilliant character development, and stunning visuals. I highly recommend watching this one before Halloween gets here!

And there we have it, another month nearly completed and a bunch of new things I couldn’t wait to share with everyone! I’ll be back next week with a full recap of all of October’s best moments, and then it’s off into November we go!
