A Few of My Favorite Things: August 2023

It’s hard to believe that in just a few days we’ll be welcoming September, the unofficial beginning of the Fall season- Labor Day Weekend!- and diving right into what is almost always the busiest time of year for me! I’m excited, anxious (in a good way!) and doing my best to stay prepared and organized so that I can make the most out of the “Ber Months” here in New England and beyond!

And while I have a lot to write about in my upcoming monthly rewind/recap before we flip to a new page in the calendar, I wanted to share a few of the purchases, products, finds and funny things that I really enjoyed throughout August 2023, first. As I always do with these “Favorite Things” spotlights, I’m going to share the items I could snap photos of before I get into some of the miscellaneous odds & ends.

Let’s get started!

I couldn’t not start this month’s collection with these over-the-top but still super cute sprinkle cat-eye sunglasses from Liver & White– a late night impulse buy while I was scrolling through Instagram and decided that I definitely needed a pair for my collection. These have quickly become my go-to for festival wear, beach days (when its not raining) and errand runs when I just want to look bright and cute.

I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on these shades whenever I’ve worn them out. They’re perfect for these last days of Summer!

During a recent weekend outing, Troy had made a pit stop in my beloved Joshua Tree to do some sightseeing and shopping. While there, he came across Nomadic Ceramic– and knowing my love of all things candles, and wanting to make sure my apartment had a Summery, in-between-seasons fragrance before I start lighting all the apple crisp and pumpkin spice ones I’ve been stockpiling- he picked up this one for me.

This soy candle burns for 40 hours and smells like the desert (one of my favorite places to be!) after a rainstorm. It’s refreshing and clean without being overpowering.

Troy also picked up a beautiful and brightly-colored cacti illustration from the shop that I’ve been displaying proudly in one of the corners of my living room!

In keeping up with the home décor discussion, I don’t think I’ve ever showcased much of the “beach bungalow” transformation my apartment undergoes during the Summer months (maybe next year I’ll do a full tour!) but a lot of it comes from places like Michael’s and Target where I can buy a ton of items without breaking the bank.

These two wooden structures- from Target- were new additions this Summer when I was feeling inspired by Cape Cod and New England clambakes. I’ve been keeping them on display on a shelf in my bedroom and honestly, I get a little choked up thinking about packing them up until Summer 2024! They’re just so cute!

And finally, I’ve had quite a few “no makeup” days this past month- be it from the scorching heat, the torrential rain, or simply because I’ve been too busy to bother- so combining sun protection and pore-minimizing benefits in one easy-to-apply product has been a phenomenal find for me.

This facial sunscreen (SPF30) from Saint Jane has been in my purse all month. It gives me a brighter, smoother complexion while protecting my skin when I’m out and about. It doesn’t have an overpowering fragrance, and is loaded with antioxidants- so my skin feels great even after I’ve washed/wiped it off!

And now, as many late-night infomercials would say- “wait, there’s more!”

– Movies/Music/Television –

The Killers – ‘Your Side of Town’: The Killers have been releasing absolutely incredible one-off singles over the past couple of years, from ‘Boy’ to this most recent, synth-filled track. I am head over heels for this one. It’s so catchy and fun to dance to- and I know that Kelsey would be playing it on a non-stop loop so we could find new parts to obsess over with each listen.

Hozier – ‘Unreal Unearth’: I knew this was an album I was going to play over and over from start to finish when I heard some of the singles during a live performance in Boston a few months ago- and I was absolutely right (I love when I can say that!) This is a great record, particularly for the upcoming Fall season. I will never get over this man’s voice and how talented he is.

__________

And there we have it- the last “Favorite Things” roundup for Summer 2023! I’m looking forward to seeing what spooky and seasonal things make the list by the end of September!
