OOTD: Storm-Proof Stripes…

Something I get asked fairly often, especially in New England’s unpredictable weather and humidity during the Summer months- is how I keep my skin, hair and makeup looking fresh. As someone with a combination complexion and naturally curly and unruly hair- it’s not always easy- and I stress the need to develop a regimen of products that are applied in the correct order and contain ingredients that enhance (and never “weigh down.”)

I also shop smart, and I keep an eye out for deals and steals from some of my favorite companies and brands so that I can stock up and save a little cash in this ever-changing and unpredictably economy. In the Summertime I like to “bulk buy” since I tend to use certain products vigorously and daily, i.e. sunscreen and setting spray for quick touch-ups when the temperatures rise. So when certain brands have value sets/bundles, or duo-packs of products, or buy-one-get-ones- I’m usually adding those to my cart right away.

I’ve been a long-time fan of Ulta, who have a great points-to-cash reward system that you can use on any purchase, and who have a wide selection of Buy More, Save More’ options to browse. I recently utilized it when re-stocking on SPF and body moisturizer- which is an absolute necessity when you’re dipping your toes back into sunless-tanner the way that I have (see my June Favorites post for the Isle of Paradise tanning spray that has me glowing this year!)

Ulta also currently has a free shipping on any orders over $35 promotion happening now- which means you can save even more money while you re-stock and replenish the way that I just did.

And all that skincare and hair care prep priming really shined when I was recently photographed in Historic Deerfield on a day when we had the trifecta of New England Summer weather- flash flood warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings, and heat advisories! All at once!

Because of the aforementioned sunless tanner, I’ve been wearing a lot of white in my wardrobe- including in this white and olive striped mini-dress from Market & Spruce. It’s made of lightweight and stretchy fabric which means that I didn’t have to worry about sweating or streaking as the afternoon wore on and the storms rolled through. My makeup never budged and my hair stayed in place thanks to plenty of primer, powder and leave-in conditioner in my curls.

I kept my accessories at a minimum for this Summer shoot, as well- wearing my most comfortable Steve Madden pointed-toe heels and the Pavoi ring I last wrote about in May.

I’ll be sharing more of my Summertime skincare/hair care favorites from the season in the coming days ahead once my most recent Ulta shipment arrives at my apartment- because this has definitely been the type of Summer where everyone needs to be swapping their secrets, hacks and deals to make it through unscathed!
